Can you believe your making a family?

Can you first time mommies believe your making a family?

Me and DH have been planning this for a few years now, getting everything in order before going off the pill.  But now that it?s really happening, I can?t believe it?s real.  I am unable to step back and see what?s happening.

Re: Can you believe your making a family?

  • sometimes i still can't believe that we *are* a family! in that way where you can picture looking back on your parents and your friends families and it's hard to swallow that you're them now. aren't we still supposed to be kids?

  • Eh, DH and I have been a family since we got married, and really even before then since we lived together and shared a lot, plus have adopted cats that are like our children. Now we're simply adding another human to that family.?

  • In theory, I have about 4 days left and it still hasn't hit me yet. Like, I'm still in the dream world where I'm having a baby, but it's not actually happening? If that makes any sense... lol
  • I don't think I will believe any of it until she is here, in my arms...
  • It still is hard for me to grasp that I am like my parents were 30 years ago. I have an almost 5 year old and it still hasn't hit me that we are a real family, LOL.
  • Doesn't a family start once you and your partner get married? Isn't it just that you are only adding to the family once your baby is born or when you adopt? That you're just expanding it once a child arrives?

Absolutely, your right.  But it's a huge change, an evolution of the family.  Just hard to believe I'm going to be a mom, and DH is about to be a dad, it's a new role in our family that is hard to grasp.

  • I may be weird, but it's hard for me to think of a family as a husband and wife with NO kids. I knew a couple that didn't want any kids and they never had any (are now in their late 40's) and I just thought that was so strange!

When you put it like that, yeah, I know what you mean... I guess taking on a role in the family as mother and father is quite new and fresh with the addition of a dependent.
