1st Trimester

Highly disappointed

So, I just had my first appointment.  I got poked and prodded and sent on my merry little way.  No ultrasound to make sure that everything was okay.  Apparently, my insurance only covers 1, and my clinic waits until around 20 weeks to do the first ultrasound.  I was so excited because when I made the appointment I was told I would be having an ultrasound to "confirm". I got nothing.  The nurse even said that I wouldn't be able to see anything at this point any way!  Just check, dammit!  I'll pay out of pocket!  Let me see my kid!

It may be the hormones right now, but I just want to go home.  I wanted to see my bean.

  • That sucks... I'm sorry Sad

  • The doctor's office I am going to gave me a form that said that some insurance companies only allow for one ultrasound unless they are medically necessary, but it gives me a list of costs if someone wants to pay out of pocket if their insurance is like this.  You may be able to do that.
  • The nurse doesn't know what she is talking about...according to your ticker you are 7 weeks 1 day, you would have been able to see your little bean with its heart beating away.
  • That does suck.  But really, that is completely normal!  I only get one u/s and it is around 20 weeks.  The nurse shouldn't have told you you were getting one though!  But just realize that is standard!

I know!!! That's what I told her!!!  Everyone of my friends got an U/S done at their first appointment AND heard the heartbeat.  I guess I just have a severe case of jealousy.

  • I know how you feel. I got an u/s my first appointment but didn't get one on my second, which was last week.Sad I'm sorry you didn't get to see your little bean. I was so bummed when I didn't get to see mine for the second time that I can't imagine how it must've felt like to not see the first. Don't worry though, 20 weeks will be here before you know it.

Can you call and find out the out of pocket expense?

And see I have Health Advantage! A sister to BCBS! They suck!  Sad

The doc said that it was $350.  She scheduled another appt. in two weeks, so I'm trying to try for one then.

  • How disappointing. You know what I always think is so weird? My ins supposedly only covers 2 ultrasounds, but with DS I had like 5 or 6 anyway (no charge for any of them). My OB office is u/s happy I guess...I had two with a tech and the others all just on a little portable machine with a nurse and the doctor.

I would say that if you only get one then it is probably best to wait until 20 weeks, when it'll look like a real baby and everything! You can always go to one of those independent companies and get a 3D one too.
