Chiropractor and pregnancy

I think I have another pinched nerve in my back and I was thinking about going to the chiropractor.

My cousin told me that going to the chiropractor when you are pregnant can cause a miscarriage but everything I have read and others I have talked to said it is actually benefitial while pregnant.

What do you guys think?  Ok or not ok?

Re: Chiropractor and pregnancy

  • its fine, be sure to see a good chiropractor & tell him that you're pg. i go weekly (before & since getting bfp) and its been wonderful.

  • I think I'd ask my OB rather than relying on my cousin, random internet searches and internet strangers.
  • I went constantly with DS and have already been with DC#2.  I wouldn't have survived the first pregnancy without due to a hip problem that causes constant sciatica nerve pain without treatment.
  • Ask your doctor!!!

Your cousin is an ignorant fool. Going to the chiropractor and getting regular adjustments is WONDERFUL during pregnancy!

  • I've been several times and all is well. He did tell me that it is important that they don't do certain proceedures/moves on my - especially in first tri.

  • I go to the chiropractor every 3 weeks.  My Dr. said it's fine as long as he knows that I'm pg and has experience doing adjustments on pg women.

  • Well, I am a chiropractor, and it is perfectly safe.  As the pp stated, just make sure to let the dr. know you are pregnant so they can make adjustments to your treatment type as necessary.  There are even specific techniques to help reduce the chance of tearing during delivery, and to turn the baby naturally if it is breach, but not all dr's take those classes.  Hope it helps!

  • I think the chiropractor herself said it all. I would not be walking if it weren't for my Chiro. I love her. My L5 is out every single time I go to her, and it is a HUGE relief when she puts it back in. I have so many back problems I honestly don't think I would be able to vaginally deliver without seeing a CP. And I DESPERATELY want to deliver naturally. I refuse to have a c-section unless the baby is in danger.
