Anyone get DD's ears pierced @ 3 yo?

DD said again she wants earrings.  I've told her it will hurt and they have to poke your ear.  She says she still wants it.  I'm ok with it and think she will be too especially once she sees her ears.  Anyone have a experience with this age of kid and piercing?

  • DD was a bit over 2 1/2. She was on us for MONTHS about wanting sparklies for her ears, and played with anyones she could get her hands on.

We did just what you are doing.  We explained it would hurt a bit (did NOT over do that) and she still wanted them.  She cried for about 5 seconds, and as soon as they held the mirror up and she saw them she was so proud!

  • Yes!  I always said that I would get DD's ears pierced when she asked for it.  So, about 3 weeks ago, she started asking every single day.  I offered her her dress up clip ons and she told me no she wanted earrings like mine.  I told her it'd be a pinch and that's it.

We went to Claire's.  Make sure they have 2 people so that they can do both ears at the same time.  It's really quick and costs $25-40ish, depending on the studs you pick out.  DD absolutely loves them and they are easy to take care of.  Claire's gave us a solution to use and we have to clean them 3x/day for 6 weeks.  Then we can change them, etc.  But, they do need to have a post earring in them for the first 6 months.  DD did pull a tshirt on the other day without help and made one bleed a little bit, but it was fine after I cleaned off the blood.

ETA:  DD did not cry at all and will even tell you that they didn't really hurt at all.

  • I got DD#1's done at 2 and she was great with it.  She kept asking for it over and over and over again.  I wanted to get them done at 6 months but DH said not until she asked (expecting her to be like 6 or 7).  Well, DD is a total frufru girl and kept trying to wear my earrings and whatnot.  Finally, one day, she wore some clip-on earrings around for like 3 or 4 hours without messing with them.  When DH came home, I showed him and he said I could get hers done.  I actually got both girls' ears done the same day, but that's another story.  Anyway, DD#1 was great about them.  They did both ears at the same time (thankfully).  I called ahead to make sure there would be two people there to do them.  She cried for like 20 seconds and then wanted her sucker and told me it was DD#2's turn.  (DD#2 was 6 months.)  She let us clean them and fiddle with them as much as we needed to.  In fact, she thought it would hurt that much to change earrings and she still wanted new ones as soon as she could change them out.  She was thrilled when she found out it didn't hurt at all to change them and often asks for different ones.  I have a few things of cheap, sensative ones from Claire's.  We've lost a few when backs fell off and whatnot (two in one weekend from different pairs) so I just stocked up and now she has all sorts to choose from.  She loves it.
  • My girlfriend from work just got her daughter's done.  She pulled them out and they closed up, she'll have to have them done again.
