Preemies

I just read your post about fighting with the hospital about the bill and their denying you the right to apply for the medicaid.  They are breaking the law by denying you the right to submit an application for medicaid.  You need to write a detailed letter of complaint to them with supporting proof and your demands for correction and fair treatment and send a copy to your state's Insurance Compliance Commission, your Congressman and to your insurance company.  You may also need to contact your state health services office with all of this info and they may be able to help you out as well.  I know it's a lot of leg work but that's what an attorney will do and it's worth it once everything is resolved.

We are in the process of doing the same thing for our boys experiences when they got their GJ feeding tubes placed earlier this year.  They are trying to gouge us for services and we refuse to pay.

  • I'm seconding Laura's post here - the hospital is absolutely wrong here.  You need to take action and quick.   If your baby qualifies than you can use SSI/Medicaid as secondary insurance - regardless of income and current insurance.

You can call the state office yourself and find out about applying.  They can send you the paperwork to fill out.

If you go to my blog www.preemieparenting.blogspot.com and search by SSI or insurance, I did an entire post about it.   There are links in there for getting more information.   Sorry - this computer is super slow so I can't grab the direct link for you.

Call tomorrow and get started.   You deserve to get that money for your baby.

  • Do we need to stage a preemie sit in? Seriously, there are too many of us STL preemie mommas.. I'll round up a posse if I need to.

    LOL!  I'm with you Tricia!

  • Thank you girls...I am going to start calling some people tomorrow....my mom was over for dinner tonight for Dh's birthday so I was off the board for awhile.  I've called the hospital several times and spoken to so many people it's not even funny. Guess I'll just have to start at my state board for this.

WE're going to be at our hospital on Thursday for our NICU follow up and I wanted to go back and try to talk them AGAIN about help for our bills. It's just so frustrating and getting SOMEONE who is willing to help is hard. I wonder if this stuff is retroactive for some of the $$ that we have paid out of pocket so that maybe we could get some of it back?  That would be cool, but I seriously doubt it.

    Thanks again!

PS...TriciaJoy..I think it's in the water here!

Yes, it's absolutely retro active!!  But they will not help you find their mistakes unfortunately.  If you are questioning further charges and haven't paid them don't pay it until you know you're paying for what is your responsibility and not a screw up on their part.  They can say there is a 14 day deadline for payment but they can't enforce if you make them have open and unresolved issues with the way you are being billed.

Good luck!  Let us know how it goes.
