Wanna compare NICU bills?

I just saw the claim for Trig's NICU stay - hospital ONLY was $120,000 for 33 days of very uncomplicated care. He had no surgeries, not a lot of intervention at all, just mostly making sure he would gain weight. Then, the neonatologist and labs were another $25,000 on top of that for a total of around $145,000. I know that mine is relatively low but it's still SHOCKING! Anyone want to share theirs?

  • Campbell's 66 days totaled around $260,000.  Thank God for insurance and Medicaid.

Waylon spent 4 months in the NICU.  His final medical bill was 2.6 million!  After insurance and Medicaid, I paid about $4,000 out of pocket.

  • $147,000 before insurance, not including the daily doctor visits and a surgery (I have yet to get those bills). I had to pay $400 after insurance. Also, her transport from the hospital to the children's hospital, a total of two whole blocks, was over $2,000, and I had to pay $200 of that. I'm sure there is much much much more to come.

  • $500,000 for the 98 day NICU stay. No surgeries, relatively uneventful really. It was about $1500 a day for the neo to see him. So tack on another $150,000. Then there were various labs and x-rays, but those are all billed by separate companies. Probably another couple thousand. So far between insurance and Medicaid we don't owe anything. Oh, and insurance paid for the NICU stay 100%.

Emma's was about $300k total. I think we had to pay about $1500 of that. Mine for 6 weeks and delivery was only $60k, which I thought was a pretty smoking deal!

  • My two were in the NICU for a total of 15 weeks.  We only saw the bill for the first 8 weeks, and DS was 1.1 million and DD ws 1.2million.  They then had another 7 weeks in the NICU.  My bill from when I was on bedrest was 500,000.  We didn't pay a penny out of pocket.  They are well worth it!!!!

  • Olivia was in the NICU for 5 1/2 months and her bill for the hospital and neos was $2.8 million.   She also had PDA surgery, fundoplication and gtube surgery, numerous xrays, tests, etc. that aren't included in that total.

Dominic was in the NICU for 2 months and his bill was $500,000 for the hospital and neos.

Thankfully we had great insurance both times so we didn't have to pay anything out of pocket.

  • I only saw the hospital bill itself for Robbie. That was 550,000. My copay was 50 bucks. Thank GOD for good insurance!
  • I was in the hospital for almost 3 weeks and DS was in the NICU for a month - I don't remember how it split up (it's been 3 years) but I know the total for the two of us was almost $300k.  I had never been more thankful to have good health insurance in all my life - everything was 100% covered except for a small percentage of my ambulance ride which ended up to be only $150.
  • I am sooooooooooooooo jealous..our bill (this doesn't count my BR bill) is $750k...out of that we've paid $5k and am currently fighting with the hospital b/c even though I've met my deductable they think I (not my insurance co) should be responsible for another $6k.  We had great care at the #6 NICU in the country but their customer service SUCKS BIG...they refuse to sign papers to qualify my girls for medicaid b/c we have ins. and my Dh and I are employed (got this info from teh fun paperwork that we filled out when the girls were admitted)...I know i should get a lawyer but we don't have the $$$ for that. :(
  • Ours was about 200,000.00 for twins. 27 and 28 days. I got a check in the mail last week (18 months later) for 900.00 saying I overpaid my portion. SWEET!
  • 12 days in the NICU - $122K. We *think* we'll be responsible for about $2K of that.

And the sad part? Is that it's still less than my student loan bill. oy.

  • I added up the bills for my hospitalized bedrest, the delivery and their nicu stays at one point about a year ago. All of the bills hadn't come in yet, and the total was about $1.8 million. They were in the NICU for 6 weeks and 9 weeks, and they had relatively uncomplicated stays - lots of tests, but no surgeries, etc.
