I try to pump when DD is sleeping or in between feedings. My LC told me that the breast is never empty...it's like a tiolet, there is always something there so even if you pump and then breastfeed, the baby will get milk. But if I pump too close to DD's feeding, she gets really pissed when she latches on. I guess it's because it's not coming out fast enough for her (because if express manually milk does come out).
Anyone else have this problem? And my overall question is should I just let her keep trying to get milk (even though she gets pissed) or should I just give her a bottle? I've been giving her a bottle (of BM).
Re: When do you pump when your at home?
I pump in the morning because you are the most full then. I do single side feedings, so she eats on one side and I pump the other. I usually get 2+ oz in about 10 minutes or so. Then at her next feeding she eats off the pumped side.
If it has been more than an hour since you pumped I would say to let her keep trying at the breast, but I'm not an expert. Does your hospital have an LC you could call and ask?
