Weaning From Bottles...Tips?

Hi ladies!  I know I don't get the chance to get on here much anymore, but I was hoping some of you may have tips from weaning the boys from their bottles.  We just moved this past week and the boys are starting new daycare next week.  We've tried giving them sippy cups at meals, but they play with them and toss them.  They really have not grasped the idea.  They are still taking 4 bottles a day.  Any advice is greatly appreciated.  Thanks so much and I hope everyone is doing well!

  • Hey, Megan!!!  How did the move go??  How are things on the job front??

In regards to sippy cups, I found the transition pretty easy because I used the straw sippy cups and the boys really took to them.  Just keep on giving them the sippy cups and they will get it!

BTW, your boys are so handsome and such little men!  Where did the time go??  Happy 1st birthday, boys!

  • hey megan. ?miss you! ?as for the bottles...we got sippy cups with straws (munchkin) and had to quit juice and water for a few days...they were drinking juice out of them but not milk. ?then i only gave them the option of milk. ?they realized, hhhmmm, i'm thirsty, i'd better drink milk out of here. ?we now only do a 7am and 7pm bottle and it's milk in the sippy all day. ?when i give them juice or water it's out of a grown up cup with a grown up straw. ?we'll be dropping the 7am bottle next, i just want to see how much they weigh at their next pedi visit. ?keep in mind that when they drink milk from a bottle it's a lot of ounces in a few minutes...with the sippy it's more frequent opportunities to drink and only about 2 ounces at a time. ?HTH. ?also, we do lots of whole milk foods and snacks to make sure they get their daily amount of milk (yo baby yogurt, homemade pudding, cheese)

  • My girls would do the same thing (play with sippies at meals) so we started giving them juice as a snack (not in the high chairs) until they finally figured out that they should be drinking out of it.  I think the novelty needs to wear off - eventually they will stop playing with them.  I would just suggest to keep trying.
