DD is 4 1/2 months old...I've been pumping and breastfeeding since day one, and I'm starting to produce very little....it's so frustrating b/c i have no idea why! i normally nurse around 7 a.m. and then again at 7 p.m. and pump every three hours throughout the day....i used to have extra milk....now i can't pump enough for her....i wanted to get a head start on the day, so last night i was determined to pump a 7 oz bottle before i went to bed...i started pumping last night and went back and forth b/tw boobs every 10-15 for THREE HOURS just to get 7 oz! today i pumped a total of 11 oz!! i used to get so much more ...at least 20 oz per day, if not more....i eat healthy and i make sure i eat plenty of calories...about 2,500 - 3,000 per day....i drink a ton of water....and haven't changed anything, and suddenly at 4 1/2 months, it's like i'm drying up....i'm so sad right now.....any advice? thank you SO much in advance....
Re: what's going on?!?
DS had a HUGE intake increase just after 4 months. Maybe that happened?
I got new tubing for my PISA last week. That made a huge difference... write them on their website (tell them it's falling apart). They'll mail you a complimentary set free.
Try replacing your membranes on your PISA? (the little white things). Maybe there's a hole in them???
My supply had a shfit around 4 months, and I found I had to do more massage/ compression when I pumped. Maybe try that? Video: https://newborns.stanford.edu/Breastfeeding/MaxProduction.html
Good luck!!!
Is it possible to take a "nursing vacation" this weekend with your little one? Just settle in and let her nurse as much as she wants all day long. It sounds like her needs are increasing and you need her to tell you body to make more milk. The other suggestion would be to take 2-3 days and pump every 2 hours all day. You want to do whatever you can to tell you body that it needs to make more milk.
Good luck!
