  • ok that is what I was thinking but wanted to make sure
  • Jee-ah-na is how I say it in my head. I *think* a lot of Italian names that start with GIA are pronounce Ja, and not phonetically, though? Like, Gianni is pronounce more like Johnny than Jee-Ahn-EE or Jee-Annie. But, WTF do I know?! Wink

  • Gee- ARNA.

Usually in Italy it would be the nn for Giovanna, which is the feminine of Giovanni (or John).

This is how you'd say it if you were Australian. ;)
  • Ditto Purrr - most people in the US pronounce it with three syllables (gi ah nuh) but the Italian pronunciation would be more along the lines of "johnna"
  • Ooh! I was right?! Yay me! Now, if I admitted where I gleaned that info, I prob. wouldn't seem so intelligentWink

I totally agree. OR if you're an AMERICAN. I don't try to translate a fake Italian accent into nestie-phonetics though. You're Americans I assume you want it said the way 99% of americans will say it. And that's how they will say it.

  • I was going to say "John-na" b/c I have an Italian friend with that name, but I could see it "Gee-ah-na" too.  If you know the family well, could you just ask politely?
