Beta #'s?

I have a question...what are these Beta #'s that everyone keeps talking about doubling every day or so. My doctor never mentioned anything to me about beta. They took blood while I was at my first appointment but didn't ever tell me anything about what they were doing with it or call me afterwards.

I assume no news is good news, and I have my first Ultrasound in two weeks. But I just wondered what those #'s are and if I should call my doctor to find out what mine are.

It's the level of HCG hormone that is in your system. ?Your numbers are supposed to double every 2-2.5 days with a viable pregnancy. ?My Dr never even took a blood test for my betas with DS. But because of my m/c this time he took them twice.

You don't have to know them, they'll just keep them on file and then if something weird starts to happen, they'll take more blood and double check it against your first ones.?

betas are taken right after a BFP. the number usually doubles in the beginning of pregnancy when things are going well. doctors take them usually only for people who have had m/c's or trouble getting pregnant. not everyone has them, and if you're already past your frist appt i wouldn't worry about it

Thanks for the info. I was just extra worried because this is a new doctor. The one I've been going to for years retired sometime between my last pap and getting pregnant. So when I called to make my appointment and tell him I was PG, I got a disconnected #. So being this is my first pregnancy and a brand new doctor, and since I've only seen him once I keep wondering if he's definitely the right one for me. So hearing that there were some #'s I didn't get done made me nervous. I'll just have to trust that he's a good doctor and hope we see eye to eye as things progress.

lots of people don't necessarily need beta's drawn.  Unless there's a problem or in my case:  I'm a fertility patient.

some docs just do them.   Some don't.

Don't worry I was wondering the same thing. I never heard anything about them from my Dr. and I'm 11 weeks tomorrow.
