potty training????

Hey ladies

john is doing great with peeing in the potty.  he pees 90% of the time in the pot BUT he wont poop in the potty.  he waits till he has a diaper on (for the most part) and then poops.  which is fine except that he only wears a diaper ot bed.  I pretty much have to check him every night to make sure he is clean otherwise he will get horrible diaper rash overnight.  I also think it delays how long it actually takes him to fall asleep. Any tips to encourage him to poop before bedtime?  or do I just wait it out?

Re: potty training????

  • How old is he?   Harrison has only been pooping on the potty regularly now for about 2 months or so....before that he was doing the same.  He will do it when he's ready.  The only thing to watch out for is if he's actually holding it...that can lead to constipation and other nasty stuff.

  • he is 23 months.  I am not in any real rush but I'd love to encourage him to take it to the pot:-)

  • Grant did that as well...didn't starting pooping till he was 2.5....I went a few days leaving him with nothing on from the waist down during the day until he pooped (luckily he wasn't one to poop on the floor) after a few days of that he started going.

  • Oh you guys are doing awesome then!!!  We started H with this whole process when he was two and he really didnt get it consistantly until he was 3!  Kudos to you both :)

  • Audrey did the same thing. Once I was sure she was staying dry through the night, I did away with the Pull Ups completely. She pooped in her panties a few times (maybe 3 or 4) and then started going to the potty every time. Now she claims she has a tummy ache every.single.time she has to poop.
  • Kim....how did you get her pt'd during the night???? We are nowhere close there...

  • I don't know how the night training happened. It was absolutely nothing I did and from what I've heard, it's not something you can help them do. They either will or won't pee at night and it's a physical thing. So, they can be completely potty trained during the day but at night still need to wear a diaper or Pull Up and that's okay. He'll get it at some point. I just took the plunge after Audrey didn't have a wet Pull Up for a week straight.
