alcohol and bf ?

I'm sure this has been asked a million times but my search function isn't working.  I am planning on going to a girls night out this Friday and will probably want to have a couple of drinks.  I am EPing so would you recommend just making sure you have enough milk pumped for dh to give while you're out?  And then how long to wait after drinks to pump again?  Thanks ladies!

Re: alcohol and bf ?

  • I'm no expert, but I did see they sell a test kit for alcohol at BRU.  In packs of 3 or 20.

The 20 pack did make me giggle a bit.

  • You should stay under .05%. The best way to know is to breathtest. But you can have the rule of thumb that for a woman 1 STANDARD drink in the first 2 hours plus 1 in each hour thereafter should keep you under. More often or bigger drinks and you'll go over, and then you need to wait until the hours passed is equivalent to that rate. So if you have 3 standard drinks in the first hour you would need to wait until 4 hours has passed.

I know that the attached measurements are in mL but there is an equivalent for oz and most bartenders should know, actuall ALL of them should know, what a standard drink is.

So if you drink wine or beer you'll be able to have more volume than if you drink cocktails. Also remember that cocktails usually have multiple shots in them, so you can have 2-3 standard drinks very quickly.

  • if you can drive you can pump/feed.

that is what i go by.

And how do you know you can drive? The guidelines I gave ARE for driving and for driving you should stay under .05% same as for BFing.

I hope you're not saying Stacy that "if I feel ok I can drive" because THAT is what every drunk known to man says when they get behind a wheel.

  • MMML i am not going to get into a debate with you over this. DO NOT start spewing nonsense you know nothing about.

  • STacy I know a lot about blood alcohol content. I have both a science degree and I have prosecuted perfectly nice people who were over .05% driving. They all said they felt fine.

Feeling fine is no comfort. If you want to argue with that then you are complete and utter dangerously fvcking idiot. And I have not called ANYONE a name like that ever. But implying and t hen further implying by arguing with me that just feeling fine to drive is enough is totally and utterly irresponsible.

  • I purchased the bm test strips - it gave me peace of mind.  I drank a martini & then 2 glasses of wine over the course of a 2 hour dinner.  An hour after that I pumped & came back as good to give baby.

  • As I have said before i have absolutely no desire to debate this issue with MMML-

to the origional poster- it is truly a case of personal discrestion.

  • "discrestion"?

And you want to be taken seriously?
