No Heartbeat at 5 weeks 6 days

Hi Ladies - I went in for my first u/s yesterday at 5 weeks 6 days and we were able to see a sac measuring 8mm and potentially a small yolk sac, but did not see a heartbeat. I have had 2 miscarriages and am worried that it won't be a viable pregnancy. Do you think I should be concerned that I didn't see a heartbeat yet? At what point did you see your first heartbeat?

At my 5 week u/s, the dr wasn't even looking for a hearbeat (just the sac). They had me come back at 7 weeks and there was a heartbeat.

Usually, it's around 6 weeks that the heartbeat can be detected.

My Dr. wouldn't see me until 10-12 wks because she wanted to make sure she was able to hear the heartbeat instead of getting me scared if she didn't find one at an earlier date.

It's hit or miss at that point. Days or even hours have such an impact on the size and development of the embryo. Don't lose hope, I had the same experience until 7 weeks when we finally saw and heard the heartbeat on u/s. Good Luck!

I didn't see mine at 5 weeks but saw it a week later (nice and clear) at 6 weeks. Hang in there. I no it is so terribly difficult.

I had one at 5 weeks, and saw the same thing.  I went in for another one 6 days later and there was a baby and a heartbeat!!! It is amazing how quick they grow. My LMP measured me a whole week off, you can't always trust it.  I ovulated a week late.   GL!

My doctor won't look for a h/b until 7 weeks.  She said you can sometimes see it earlier than that, but it's hit or miss.

I had an ultrasound at exactly 6 weeks and she did find the heartbeat using the trans-vaginal U/S.  The tech said that was the earliest they can ever find the HB and sometimes can't find it that early.  I am sure you are fine.  Good luck!

I thought the heart doesn't start beating until 8 weeks... that's the earliest my OB will take patients

We heard the hb a little after 6 weeks, and even then the doctor said if we had come in just a day before, we may not have heard it or seen it.  Anyways, I wouldn't worry.  I know it's much easier said than done, but stay positive.

I had an ultrasound at the same exact time as you and they did not see the heartbeat either, just 2 sacs. I think this is pretty normal, but of course I was still worried. I go back today for my follow up ultrasound (3 weeks since the last one) and we are hoping to see that sweet little baby on the screen!

At my 6 week U/S I saw and heard the heart beat. It was still pretty early so the OB said the heartbeat might be slow which it was at about 98. 5 weeks is pretty early so just wait for another U/S.

It is still reeeally early to see a heartbeat or much of anything.  My Dr. waited until 8 weeks to see me because it is so early.  I had the same thing happen with my first pregnancy and I went back at 7-8 weeks and everything was fine.

Totally normal! If you go back in a couple weeks, I'm sure you'll see one. If you're interested, I have a pic in my blog (link in siggy) of my 5w6d ultrasound.

That's really a hit or miss time.  I had one at 6w1d and the tech told me that the hb had probably started the day before.  Relax and breath, I know it's so hard.

I had an ultrasound at 5 weeks 4 days and they couldnt find the baby let alone the heartbeat

Both showed up by 7 weeks 2 days.

Try not to worry too much.  I'm right there with you, 3 previous m/c's and I went in yesterday at 5w6d too so it sounds like we're due date buddies.  They saw on mine exactly what you saw and told me that sometimes it just looks like that but there's nothing wrong.  They took some blood from me and said they wanted to do another ultrasound in a week.  HTH!

You have about a week before the heart starts beating.  I didn't get to see my babe until 10 weeks along and even then, my Dr. didn't have us listen to the heartbeat, I just saw it flutter away on the screen.  She said she doesn't listen to it until after 15 weeks.  I thought that was sort of strange.

Keep positive and hopeful! We did not hear a heartbeat at 5 weeks 4 days either, then went in at 8 weeks and the heart was going strong!

I went in at 5w4d and was only able to see the sack. Went back today at 6w4d and we were able to see and hear the heartbeat with a transvaginal u/s. Try to take it easy and give it another week or two.
