clogged duct while weaning--treatment?

I have been slowly weaning and it -seemed- to be going well. I haven't nursed or breastfed since last Friday. My right breast still got a bit full (not engorged) and then the milk seemed to start reabsorbing. Starting yesterday, I think a duct clogged or something because I now have a small boulder in there that is painful if there is any contact with it. Not sure how to treat it since I'm not nursing anymore--I have heat on it and I will take ibuprofen, but is that enough? I checked kellymom.com and didn't find anything about a clogged duct -after- weaning. TIA for any help you can give me.

Re: clogged duct while weaning--treatment?

  • I haven't weaned yet, but I think applying heat and massaging it in the shower will help. I'm afraid of this part of weaning too!

  • Massage it in the shower and I would venture to say that I would pump a bit on that side. If you do not clear out some of the buildup you could wind up with an infection. If you have not pumped since Friday have you put cabbage in your bra? Also a tight shorts bra around the clock for a week or so...
