5 month old & pregnant again....scared!
So my son will be 5 months old tomorrow and my husband and I haven't exactly been careful since he has been born. My husband has said he doesn't want another child....he has said that my son has been so difficult that he can't imagine doing it again. My son has bad GI reflux and doesn't sleep or eat very well. He was a very hard infant and would stay up for 18 hours straight before being diagnosed and medicated. It's still hard because he still doesn't sleep very much. Anyway, I am late and took a test last week that came out negative. Oviously this would be way to soon to be pregnant again if we actually decided to have another. I wanted another very badly but we couldn't agree on it so I figured it probably wouldn't happen. I took another test today because I still haven't started my period and have been very tired. I didn't look at it for 10 minutes and when I did it was negative. An hour later I went to throw it away and looked down to see it was then turned positive. I freaked out! I can't believe this is happening and just don't know how to cope. I will have two babies born 12 months apart and born in the same month. Has anyone else gone through this? I am scared and stressed! To top it off I just lost my job!

oh my god you NEVER look at it after the recommended time. it's an evaporation line, therefore i am 98% sure you arent pregnant. doesnt anyone know anything today???
secondly, try using protection if you are so worried about this. wtf

I would take another test. They aren't reliable after an hour.
And if you aren't PG after all, then START BEING CAREFUL!!!!!

That is strange. A test is not accurate if read after a certain amount of time. I would take another test or go to the doctor to see if you really are pregnant. You really might not be.
If you are, sorry you are so stressed. my friend was really stressed when the same thing happened to her but she slowly accepted it and now is really happy (she had her 2nd a few months ago). . Many people manage 2 kids and you could very easily have an easy 2nd child and your first will likely be much more consistent at that point.
I don't mean to sound like a jerk- but if you both didn't want another kid so badly- you didn't really think not wanting it is good contraception did you?
Okay, calm down. Before you panic, you need to take another home pregnancy test in the morning with your first morning's urine. Then, ONLY look at the results within the time window (usually within 10 minutes).
What you saw MAY have only been an evap line, since you looked at the test an hour later.
Everything will be fine no matter what! No two babies are the same. Your son's GI issues will start improving very soon once he is eating a lot more solids (I went through this with my son) and the next baby may be a breeze! Hang in there.
The test is still saying pregnant and it has been 2 hours...
For the love of... these tests do NOT GET MORE ACCURATE in time. They get LESS accurate!!!!! take another test before you totally freak out. Seriously.

And a PT is only good for so long after peeing on it.
Hi Virginia - I think I remember you from the trimester boards! Try to stay calm and take another test tomorrow morning. Maybe try a digital, that way there is no confusion with evap lines, etc? They really do say not to read after 10 minutes or whatever, so who knows what is going on. I hope you get the answer you are looking for, and if not - there are several pregnancis on this board and 6-12, I'm sure you would be able to get some support.

It doesn't matter what the test says 2 hours later if you read the results too late to begin with. Regardless of how many days late you are, you need to take another test. There is a time limit for checking the results on a pregnancy test.

If there was any question about becoming PG again why wouldn't you use any form of birth control? I don't understand why women are surprised they become pregnant when they don't use any form of protection. It's a no brainer folks

you know... if you look at the test after the time it says to, it'll give a false positive or evaporation line right?
I'd take another and only look at it within the time it tells you. if it was negative, it was negative. 10 min later its probably an evap line

Whoa with the harshness. Not everyone knows that much about pregnancy tests. I sure didn't since i've only taken 2 in my whole life. No need to give a freaked out woman such an attitude.
Ditto all of this. And PP about being careful!! BC pills, condoms, the Big V do it all!
