Oh so I also made "the big decision" today

I've been weighing whether to get my tubes tied after this pg in addition to DH getting a vasectomy, and decided today to just go for it and get it done during my c-section operation.

I won't lie....my mom played a big factor in my decision.

She got pg with my little sister about a year after getting a tubal. Now granted, my dad refused to get a vasectomy and they weren't using any other birth control but I want to be DOUBLY sure I am not getting pg again given that family history!

  • That happened to my mom too! Just make sure your DH gets his follow-up

  • Yikes. That's crazy. DH was going to get snipped so I wouldn't have to have a tubal, but maybe we should consider doing both when I have my repeat c (if we have another child, that is).

  • I have to admit that before I opened this post, I thought it was going to be about circumcision for BSF lol!

In any case, I'm glad you made a decision and it sounds like it's the right one, given your family history!

  • I think  that sounds like a wise idea! LOL

Plus my friend said it was cake to have it done with her c-sec.

  • That is a big decision and I probably would have done the same until a co-worker of mine had some bad luck this year. She had 2 boys and then got pregnant with a girl. Who was what we all thought a healthy little girl. I went to her 1 year bday party and she was the picture of health....only to die of leukemia 2 months later (14 months) that they never, ever knew she had. She was developing typical (walking and hitting all her milestones etc) but was sick inside. Now, she wants to get pregnant again.

That is awful Heidi. How sad for them. We have thought about a scenario like this, and, god help us, if anything like that were to happen we decided we would adopt if we wanted to add to our family again.?

    Your poor lil sis ;)

I've already made the decision that my H will be getting snipped late 2011/early 2012 after #3.

I can't wait for BSF to be born!

I know it is sad and we don't think things like this will ever happen to us but you really never know. Your due date and my bff (having a scheduled c-section on the 15th) is soo quickly coming. How exciting!!!!

  • Good for you! And let me tell you, the sex gets soooo much better once one or both of you are "fixed". I know there's a billion types of birth control out there, but if you think like I do, just knowing you're not going to get pregnant "by accident" makes you so much more relaxed! My H got a vasectomy (and yes, he followed up) right after I had my 4th and final child. Best desicion we ever made:)

I know this will be the case with me. I won't be worried anymore about something possibly happening!!?

  • I had my tubes tied during my second c-section and I have never regretted it.  DH and I had the discussion about what we would do if something were to happen to one of the kids we have now.  In the end we decided that we could never "replace" them anyway so adopting would be a wonderful option.

I am working on #3 (unplanned) and agree to take all precautions! But, on the other hand, tubals are done differently now as far as I understand. They used to just be cut and would sometimes grow back together. Now that there were so many of these cases they are going an extra step and cutting them and either coterizing (sp) them or else tying them back I think. I will have to research this...

Anyway, thats just what I have heard. But I agree with you, take any precaution you can!
