UTI and no idea?

My Dr. office called and said I have a UTI and to pick up antibiotics. I've never had one before, so I was googling them and they sound soooooo painful! I have ZERO of the symptoms that I read about. I would have never thought I had one if they hadn't called. Anyone else have this experience? The only reason I am paranoid that maybe my office got it wrong is because they confused me with another patient with my same first name in the waiting room the day of my appt. Anyway, just curious if a painless UTI exists?

Re: UTI and no idea?

  • This may be a really stupid question, but how did they know?

  • Yes, you have asymptomatic bacteruria.  Meaning, you have bacteria in your urine and no symptoms.  Usually not treated in a young healthy person unless they are pregnant.  Fairly common.

  • They may have caught it early on. I have had that happen to me in the past.

  • My BFF just told me yesterday that she developed one during her recent pregnancy and had zero clue, or pain. ?She had never had one before either.

  • At the beginning of my pregnancy I had a UTI with no symptoms.  The doctor told me that I should be glad they caught it early!  I hope that is the same that happened with you.  Trust me you do not want the symptoms.
  • I had a UTI that progressed to a horrible kidney infection and I had no signs or symptoms until my kidneys hurt so bad I couldn't stand up.
  • OK, so I guess it is common! That's what I get for letting google be my fact Bible! Thanks for the info, and putting my mind at ease!

  • Consider yourself very lucky to catch it before you have symptoms!!
  • all of my UTI experiences have not been painful at all... just had milky pee a few times, or really concentrated pee.. not painful. Just take the drugs, you'll get better. It happens more often for us pregnant women.

Yes, after reading about it I hope to never have to experience that! I feel so bad for anyone that's had to deal with all those symptoms. suscq: that sounds horrible!
