Let's talk about constipation...

TMI?  Maybe.  Embarrassing?  Yes.  But it is slow on here, so I thought I would spice things up by discussing poop....or lack there of.

I have IBS (with constipation) to begin with, but I am usually able to keep it under control with diet.  Last week things got a bit out of whack, and I'm still dealing with bad gas pains and not going to the bathroom very much.  I'm eating plenty of fiber, drinking extra water and juice, eating nuts, raisins, fruits, veggies, yogurt...but no relief yet.  I don't want to over do it with the fiber b/c I don't want the opposite problem either!!  I know it will sort itself out in a few days or so.

For those of you in the same boat, how do you cope, and what are your tried and true remedies?

Re: Let's talk about constipation...

  • Going for a walk.  When I'm all clogged up I take a big bottle of water with me and walk for about an hour.  It gets things moving and then I sit on the toilet and wait.

  • Prunes! and Prune Juice when it gets really bad. Sunkist makes snack packs (of 3) and I eat one pack a day - took a couple of days, but it keeps me regular!
  • I had one bout of this and bought prune juice until I could get an acupuncture appt.  That helped a little bit but 1 acupuncture treatment and I'm right back to normal.

Ditto.  It's not the tastiest advice but they really work.  I was anemic after I had DS & the iron pills really constipated me.  My Dr. had me drink a small glass of prune juice w/ every pill (4 a day) & snack on prunes.  It completely took care of the constipation and the taste grew on me after awhile.
