Has your child had a heat rash?

I think DS has a heat rash.  I read online that there isn't much that can be done other then to stay dry and cool.  Kind of hard for DS to do at daycare.  Last week was pretty warm and I had him in jeans and a t-shirt all week.  At first I thought it was the sunscreen they put on him when they went out on the playground but DH pointed out that it's on his torso as well.  It's been there for at least 4 days now.  Is that pretty typical for a heat rash?

  • he did when he was a baby, but not since then.

  • Yes, it sounds about right.  DD gets this often, and I still get it myself.

Was it painful at all?  Does it bother your DD?  DS hasn't had any reaction to it but I was just concerned given that it's been a few days and it's not looking better at all.

  • DS got them when he was a newborn and I got them as a kid (and still do from time to time).  Try putting some cornstarch on him after the bath (put it on like you would put on powder).  It helps take the itch and redness out of it.  Also, if it is still warm, have in wear as little as he is comfortable in to bed -- i.e. shorty pjs or a diaper/shirt combo.  Keeping cool during the night will give the heat rash a chance to heal.
