Gender prediction at the 13 week NT scan

So the pernatologist told us he has an experimental way for gender predication he does for 13 weeks. He looked at the direction of the pelvic floor on the US. If it was perpendicular to the rest of the body then it was a boy, if it was parallel, then it is a girl.

Did anyone else have their OB do this? or have a predication as early as 13 weeks?

If so, were they right or wrong for you all?

Re: Gender prediction at the 13 week NT scan

  • I was told accurately at 15 weeks, but we actually got a pic of his goods. ?I've never heard of what you're describing. ?If you go for it, just take it as a prediction and wait for the 20 week big u/s to have a finalized answer.?

Our u/s tech guessed that it was a girl at 12weeks and she was correct.
  • I would take this prediction with a grain of salt until your big u/s and you can get a good shot of the goods...
  • It sounds like his own little experiement or maybe something few docs are doing.  I was not told this.

  • Our peri told us it was too early to tell when we met with him at 13w.  He didn't even look down there.  He said they would tell us on May 15 at 20w.  did you get a prediction??

  • My sister found out at 13 weeks. They told her 80% boy. She has 2 more weeks until she will find out for sure. They told her something similar to what you were told.
  • I see a perinatologist too since I am high risk.  When I was pregnant with my daughter I had the NT scan done at 10w6d and the tech told me that she was a girl.  Obviously she was right.  She basically explained it the same way, but more talked about the direction of the "tail".  When I had my NT scan this time (at the same place) the baby was moving around so much that she didn't even try to look.

So since you were at a perinatologist, I wouldn't go buy all blue or pink, but you can probably trust it.  Big Smile

  • Our sono tech also "guessed" at the NT, but she said it had to do with the "angle of the protuberance". She guessed buy and it has been confirmed at each followup sono...
  • they did actually tell us it was a boy but i did not see any "parts" yet

we will see for sure very soon

    thanks for the responses

  • I haven't heard of anything relating to the direction of the pelvic floor on the U/S.  My specialist guessed 70% that I was having a girl at my NT scan at 13 weeks.  Sure enough, at 20 weeks it was 99.9% confirmed.

  • Yes, some technicians can predict gender based on the angle of the nub. There is a great website that has tons of u/s scans - you should post it there, those women are awesome! I think the website is https://www.in-gender.com/cs/forums/  Go to the Ultrasound Prediction board.

  • My tech would not guess at my NT Scan. She said the Doctor has made it clear that they are not allowed to guess at "the angle of the dangle" because it is not very accurate and then people get their hopes up. That's lucky that you tech was willing to guess!
