Big Ultrasound-Marker for Downs found....but still low Risk

Friday i had my big ultrasound and we have an 85% chance it is a GIRL!  YAAAY!!!

All organs/growth looked good and right on track.  However, the doctor also told us that he found a marker on her heart that can be seen in Down Syndrom.  i had my first Tri screening and was extremely low risk for Downs & Trisomy 18.  So, he said that this marker just means that my low risk is slightly higher but still considered low and many healthy babies are born who have this marker.  I am trying not to think too much about it.  ANyone else out there who have expereinced the same thing?

No experience with this but I hope it all works out.  Sounds promising though and your doctor isn't too concerned.

    YAY for baby girl!

  • Congrats on your girl!  I would think that if your doc was more concerned about it you would know.  I hope all turns out well for you and your family!!!
  • Was is an "echogenic focus" that they found?  Our baby has one of those on his heart, and they sent us for a Level II ultrasound to look at it more closely.  None of the Dr's that have looked at it are concerned, since my first Tri screening resulted in such low risk for Downs.  That little bright spot is still there in all the ultrasounds, but sice the doctors have been so adamant that we shouldn't worry, we are trying our best not to.  All the other tests we've had have come back perfect, so we're focusing on that. :)  Try not to worry too much, from what I hear, this is VERY common. HTH!

  • Yes, it was echogenic focus that they found.  Thanks for your reply...I will try not to think/worry about it :)
  • No but I hope for the best for you and your family.  Sounds like other moms-to-be who've gone through it say not to worry and seems like the doctor is confident that your baby girl will be healthy.  Take care and think good things!!
