first birthday party ideas

Hi everyone! My peanut is only 8 months old but we were starting to talk about her first birthday party and we are in a theme debate...

I was thinking maybe having a theme like dr. suess but my dh thinks its tacky.  Thoughts or ideas?

Dr. Suess is cute. For my oldest we just did a generic boys first birthday theme. There were 80+ people, and I wasn't going to spend a fortune on decorations when I knew no one really cared! He had an Elmo cake on his actual birthday, and for his party his cake actually had his picture on it. If you like a theme, go for it, but I think for a 1st birthday it doesn't make a big difference.
