Is this a stupid idea?

So I hate the look of plasticy junk in my home.  I know that it may be inevitable considering we are having a baby, but I just do not want our home to look like a daycare.  Since we really do not travel a bunch and my mother bought a new crib for a nursery in her home (just in case we need to drop the baby off) I am thinking we do not need a pack and play.  I really wanted to get a dark wood portable mini crib for my living room instead.  The mattress can be lowered just like a regular cib.  No one seems to have thought of this idea, so I am wondering if I am not thinking of something imperative here.  What is your oppinion?

Re: Is this a stupid idea?

  • The only reason we're doing the pack-n-play is for when we visit, it most likely won't be used at home.  SIL said she only used hers for the bassinet to have her babies sleep in the same room with them.  I'm looking into the circular gates (Rugrat style) just to keep her contained when I'm cooking or something.  If pack-n-plays aren't your style, use what is.

  • I was primarily getting a pack n play for the portability of it so a mini crib in its place wouldn't interest me. If you think you don't want to move it around much, go for it. But you don't have to have a crib downstairs either - you don't have to find something that would take a pack n play's place.

  • I don't think it is a stupid idea.  I would do what works best for you!

I hear what you are saying, however I was under the impression that it is important to have a place for the baby to sleep on the main level during the day so you do not have to walk up and down the stairs throughout the day.
