Is it becoming too feminine? Not many people know of Gilmore Girls over here, so I am not too worried about that association. Can it be a nn for something?
I am aware that it is primarily a boys' name even though GG sort of brought it over to the girls' side, but I just don't like it. It's just not masculine sounding enough for my taste. Other Irish names ending in Y that I think are better are Brady, Dempsey or Donnelly.
I like the name, but I may be a bit biased because my brother's name is Rory and I also have an uncle Rory. In the US people may think of it as a girl's name because of GG and in the New England area because of Rory Kennedy, but to me it's a boys name. It's actually a name we are considering if we have a boy, but I want to run it by my brother first in case he was thinking of the possibility of having a jr someday.
Ohhh... I was thinking girl! But, yes, because of GG. No clue on full names. Guess I can't get it in my head as a boy name because I never heard of it before the show.
We are naming our DD Rorie. I love the name and it's not as popular as a lot of other names out there right now. Children may have a hard time with it but you're an adult a lot longer than you are a child..... Also, I have a 4 year old nephew that says it perfectly.
Re: WDYT of Rory?
My Dh is Robert Ryan and MIL wanted to nn him Rory. They ended up with a nn for Robert though (after FIL) though I actually like Rory more...
I love this! Rory is a fantastic nn for Robert Ryan. It could also be Roman Ryan, Rowan Ryder, you name it.

I know adults named Rory.....2 are female and 1 is male. All have Irish last names.
I love the name for a girl or a boy and we are leaning towards it ourselves~
I agree with you completely. Rory is a very difficult name for me to say. It's hard to imagine the trouble other children would have saying it.
