I feel like I've seen this post before but couldn't find it, so if this is a repeat, sorry!
Food is just recently sounding good to me again, and I wanted to get a good snack stash together for throughout the day. As I was making my shopping list, I couldn't think of much! Just wondering if anyone has any healthy snack ideas? Thanks!

Re: Healthy Snack Ideas?
I just bought the best all natural falafals (sp?) at Costco that are soooo good! I got little mini Pitas at Whole Foods and Greek yogurt sauce for them. Yum!
We also like hummus from costco too.
Carrots and dill dip
Sugar free pudding/jello
Flavored sugar free applesauce (I like cranberry or strawberry kiwi)
Banana and PB toast
Unsalted almonds

An FYI, for anyone who cares, "sugar free" is usually (I know the pudding does for sure) going to have aspartame loaded up in it.
This is true, but it is fine in moderation. As long as you don't eat 47 sugar free pudding cups a day, it's ok.
These are my go-to's also.
My fave is tearing up pieces of whole wheat pita bread and tossing with a mix of some olive oil, little salt and garlic powder, bake for 6 minutes on 400 for easy non-bad for you chips... this plus making some easy guacamole or hummus is sooo yummy and satisfying!
I dont know - my dr said I could have a diet coke once in a while if I was craving it, but I think its risky to have aspartame in regular snacks.
Wow! I'll have to try that!

Oh neat! We'll have to put money on who pops first!

Everyone feels differently about it. I won't touch it at all...just making sure people know since it's in a lot of things we'd never think of (like gum haha).
I am in!
You showing yet? If so, my money is on you LOL!
...wanna be labor buddies then?
That is true. Plus, since this post was for "healthy" snacks, I wouldn't consider something with that in it healthy, esp for a pregnant woman.
But everyone makes their own decisions, i just know people aren't always aware that "sugar free" doesn't equal "healthy food".
This is good to know, and embarrassing because I'd never heard of "aspartame." I knew that Splenda and other sweeteners were under scrutiny, but didn't realize the name of the problem! Just one more thing for me to add to the "ask the Dr." checklist! Thanks for all the info. everyone!

It's an artificial sweetener.
It's practically in all sugarless gum, in Diet sodas, etc. Granted, I am probably way more conservative when it comes to food additives (artificial sweeteners, trans fat, HFCS, MSG, colors, etc) so most doctors do say a little in moderation is fine. But like PP said, a diet coke every so often is very different than snacking on sugar free things as your "healthy snacks" is all.

re: hummus,
I love making it homemade...cheaper, and you can make it less caloric (cuz really, who eats only 2 T?)
1 can garbonzo beans (drained and rinsed)
1 clove garlic
2 T fat free plain yogurt (makes it sooo smooth)
2 T tahini (or olive oil or even peanut butter)
a handful of parsley
1 squeeze of lemon juice
salt, cumin, paprika, coriander to taste
1-2 T of water for right consistency
grind in food processor...
great with baby carrots, zucchini slices and whole wheat pita bread
another dip that I like to make is also sooo easy:
1 jar of roasted red peppers
1 can of pinto beans (drained and rinsed
1 clove of garlic
a handful of basil
salt to taste
blend in food processor.
I also love snacking on peanuts and popcorn (either together or separately) and frozen grapes.
