... sit on my butt in an air-conditioned studio from 9-11 every morning.
Previously, believe it or not, I've been bartending. Yes, bartending (documentary filmmaking and motivational speaking does not pay as well as it should...), and making drinks in an LA nightclub pays ridiciulously well.
So imagine my surpirse and chagrin when I started to show (a little bit of belly), and I immediately started losing my shifts. 'Tis to be expected, I suppose...
And instead of freaking out, I found a radio job as a morning co-host, where I get to sit, drink plenty of water, and be my witty and imaginatie self each morning!! Basically, until the day this baby breaks out of my ute...
SO stoked. Wanted to share, because I know a lot of us are freaking about baby cost/care/providing-for, and work is a concern, too.
I realized that if you just trust that all is well, it will be.
Though I have to say, I'll miss the extra tips I made when people learned I'm pregnant and felt sorry for me... lol.
Re: So I got a new job that lets me...
holy shiz! congratulations!
what radio station, i will have to listen in.
i'm a pregnant waitress myself (the la cliche, i am also an actress) so i feel ya. the good news is, my workplace has been fabulous about the pregnancy, and (other than the back and foot pain) it hasn't had any adverse effects on my work.
Thanks Red! It's a morning show that dabbles in everything from politics and social commentary to relationships and sex... I'm looking forward to the sex part in particular. We are not governed by the FCC, so we can say whatever the fuucky we want to... being a loudmouth, I feel I've found the perfect mouthpiece!
awesome.
Thank you, Lady!! It's www.latalkradio.com... used to be Sam in the Morning... week after next, it'll be Sam and Amber in the Morning! Slammin'!
That's awesome! Did you know you can get 4 months disability because of your pregnancy? That's what I intend on doing, starting at 5 months, because the baby's ears develop at 20 weeks, and the nightclub is too loud.
Talk to your OB- I had a friend who waited tables until she was 6, and then bowed out with disability. Something to consider!!
sweet sweet sweet. well done you!
i do know of the disability, but i am planning on using it as "maternity leave" post-birth. sigh. (some things about waitressing - the cash in hand, the flexibility- are awesome. others? -no "sick" leave or maternity leave- not so much.)
my current plan is to try to work 'till late may/early june (beginning of my 8th month) and then just get my shifts covered for the last 2 months. management is being awesome and says they will help me with that, which they totally don't have to do. so, i'll be income-less for all that time, but at least i won't be a gigantic pregnant lady waitress in the heat of summer either.

Thank you!! Have the dogs listen, too...I speak on behalf of the animals.
wow! that sounds like a great job! congrats! you are super lucky to find something so great in such a hard job market. I lost my job working as a bank teller soon after i found out I was pregnant... and it's been tough to find another one. My belly gives me away and I guess people assume I will be taking a lot of time off soon, and I can't find a job! So good for you!
and,I'll have to tune in sometime!
Congrats again!
