c-section moms who aren't breastfeeding...

I ask for comments from those not breastfeeding because this question has to do with your period, which BFing moms wouldn't have at 4 months out, usually....

So, I am now 4 months post partum and I am on my 2nd period since having the baby. I don't know if this is normal but I am having a lot of soreness inside my belly, most likely on the interior incision.

I'm guessing this is from the cramping/contracting that goes along with having your period, but it is SO SORE and uncomfortable. It is DEFINITELY not regular cramps. Other than picking up the baby (19lb) I haven't done any heavy lifting so I don't think I could have strained myself any way, so I'm pretty sure this is from the incision. It was painful last month too, but I'm noticing a lot more soreness this month, for sure.

has anyone else experienced this before??? I'm hoping this is normal and not something I'm going to have to go to the doctor for. :(

thanks in advance.

  • I don't know if our experiences are just totally different or if you're having complications but I've never had the kind of discomfort, cramps, or pains you've posted about (now and before).  If I were you I would go see your doctor.  You may have an issue with scar tissue, you could have gotten a hernia.... I don't know.  I just know that after two weeks post partum I never had any issues whatsoever and returned to regular activity completely.  Remember that a 19 pound baby in an infant carrier is a lot more than 19 pounds!  Good luck, I hope you feel better soon!
  • I actually had some painful cramping about 3 weeks ago. It lasted about 5 days. It felt like a really bad menstrual cramp, but then later in the week it was from umbilical area down. I have never had cramps like that but have heard things change after having a baby. It really alarmed me because it all started after some strenous activity.

I did call the doc and they claimed it was probably a GI virus that had been circulating. I had no other symptoms so I am still not sure what caused it. I do know that my digestive system is not the same as it was prior to being pg. I don't know if I should blame pregnancy alone or the c/s. When they sew you back together...it doesn't all go back in the way it was so who knows.

  • I had PAINFUL cramps for a few months after my surgery. It was GI related because it started in the hospital. But it was REALLY noticeable my first few AF's that came. I'd call your doc just to be sure that they know what's going on. They might want to see you, or they just might tell you that its normal and to not worry. It can't hurt to call them up.

I had exactly the same experience as Sam and (sadly) am one of the few BFing moms I knew who got their period just when they should. Another 3 month break would have been really nice!
