Did you have a max weight gain that you gave yourself at the beginning of the pregnancy? Are you on track?

Re: Weight Gain

  • I plan to stick with what my OB said, 25-35pounds gain, although thus far I've only gained 6.5pounds.

I hope to gain the recommended weight but won't beat myself if I go more. So far I'm down 12 lbs so I doubt I'm "on track".

I know, right? But if it's any consolation... I gained 3 out of those 6.5 in just this last week :P I guess I'm catching up!?

  • From the beginning I really didnt care too much as long as I stayed in the "dr recommened" range. So far I have lost 10 lbs... turns out this has been a pretty good diet so far!
  • I was 15 lbs over weight pre-pregnancy. So far I have gained only 6 lbs. I heard a minimum of 20lbs is good to have. Hoping I can gain this in the next trimester.?

  • Nope!  I figure that weight is the last thing for me to worry about right now.  I gained the standard 25 pounds with my daughter, and I'm pretty much on track with that for this one too.  If I gain more, or less, oh well...  unless my doctor yells at me!

Nope, no consolation at all, you were beautiful to begin with. So still not fair!

  • 25-35. I gained 25 with each boy so I figure that is a good goal this time. As long as baby is healthy and growing. I am happy =) I have gained 7 lbs so far
  • Last time I wanted to stay in the 25-35 lb range and ended up gaining 40. ?This time I'm on track to gain about 25. ?I think it has a lot to do with the fact that my m/s was worse this time and I was only up 1 lb at 13 weeks. ?I'm making up for lost time now, though.
  • I'm just hoping not to crack 30lbs; however, I'm not doing anything to "restrict" weight gain.  I think as long as I eat sensibly and exercise, I'll be happy with what ever happens.  Also, it is incredibly difficult to be "on track" with pregnancy weight gain, because you can have no idea of how and when you will gain weight.   For instance, with my first pregnancy I had only gained something like 15 lbs until week 30 and gained my last 17 lbs in the last 10 weeks of pregnancy - 32lbs.   I did nothing different in the last weeks, it was just how I gained weight, I suppose.  So far, I've gained 8 lbs - so I guess I'm on a track of some sort and I'm so far happy with it  Big Smile  I don't really have much choice, though!
  • Ugh.... I'm a bit ahead on the weight gain, so hopefully now that I'm back to workouts and choosing healthier things ( m/s kicked my a$$... lots of takeout) the weight gain will slow down a bit.
  • I don't see the point in setting a "max" since it's not like most pregnant women can healthily start dieting or stop gaining if they go over it (other than possibly in certain situations such as if you have GD). I never really thought about a specific number - I hope not to gain too much and at almost 27 weeks and having gained 14 lbs, I'm ok with where I am and am ok with however much more I gain in the next 10 weeks (or less, as I'm at risk for PTL and may not make it to 37 weeks).
    *** It's funny because I'm fat ***
  • I agree with pp in that I don't see a point in setting a max. What do you do if you go over it? Stop eating or something? It just doesn't make sense.
  • I never really thought about it, but I guess I'd like to stay under 35. I'm only up 11 thus far (6 of which are from the last month), so I think I'm good.

This. Minus the last pregnancy thing...

  • I think about 20 pounds. I gained about 5 so far, so I seem to be on target.

  • It makes a lot of sense to set a goal. Gestational Diabetes does not just come from eating to many sweets...Also when people say you are eating for two does not really mean eat for two. If you have a proper diet and exercise, you can easily stay on track with the recommended 25-35 lbs.

Ok so please tell me then why I have put on 40 lbs. I belly dance 5 hours a week plus practice at home. I walk everyday for at least 30 min. I really limit my sweets and I don't have GD. Where did those 40 lbs come from??

Im not a doctor....but even the doctors tell you that you should not gain over a certain amount. But all that typing you did and you said nothing about your diet.

are you a doctor who should be lecturing people on proper weight gain? no? i didn't think so...

people's weight gain also depends on their pre-pregnancy weight, so 25-30 lbs isn't the recommended weight gain for everyone.

  • WestIndy - you have to remember that the 25-35 is just a guideline. For some women gaining 40-50 lbs is normal/recommended, especially if they start out underweight.

I'm a big fan of - if the doctor isn't worried or concerned, then everything is a-ok.

  • Well, I set my goal on the Wii Fit to gain 20lbs (that way it doesn't get mad at me when I don't lose!), but I've yet to gain any weight Confused

  • If you are eating properly, working out (as you were pre-pregnancy) then who cares if you have don't have a goal or if you put on 30lbs or 40 lbs. What matters is that you are healthy and that your OB/Midwife is okay wiht your weight gain. I honestly have no idea why I would need a goal weight to gain while pregnant.
  • I hate this board. I just simply asked if anyone set a goal and if they were on track. In my personal opinion yes a goal should be set, because there are a ton of consequences that come with excessive weight gain. It even shows that it not only effects the mother, but it can effect your little one as well...Seriously it really helps to read a book sometimes and not spend all day on the internet. This board is supposed to be educational as well as informational. Yall ALWAYS find a reason to start B!tching about what someone has tried to make into a friendly conversation.

Dude. You're the one that started getting high and mighty by implying that a poster's weight gain was bad, even though her doctor isn't worried or concerned.

I was with you until that post. You took it off track.

  • I am going for my guideline given to me by my OB.  As of my last appointment I was not up to BFP weight.  We will see on Wednesday though.Embarrassed  With DD I gained 70...which was 30 over what I was supposed to gain.  So, I am not aiming for a repeat.

I was thinking about your post to dgurl, which was specific. The "even doctors say" line was a bit silly, because I can guarantee that for some women gaining 40+ is normal and recommended by their doctor. Sometimes sweeping generalizations don't work.

I would be my guess that your body just needed it.  You look like you might have been on the smaller side pre-pg.  I think your body knows what to do.  I too was thin pre-pg and feel like I have gained a lot and gained it early.  It's hard not to worry about a little but I'm just banking on a healthy well nourished baby! :)

p.s. Those 40 lbs look great on you!

  • just as a reminder to you, west_indy, and anyone who may have forgotten that this was her, you hate this board and yet YOU are the one who refused to change the subject line of your post last weekend when it said "retarded". despite the fact that people told you it was offensive. because it wasn't offensive to YOU, you didn't care. then you proceeded to write three posts about it and why it wasn't a big deal and why you refused to change the subject line...

and even though no one was really snarky in this post, you would have deserved if they were.
