Is bloody show a one time thing?

I think I had my bloody show last night...but I guess I expected the rest of the mucous I'm passing to also be streaked with blood. (I'm still loosing a lot of MP every time I wipe). It hasn't been though! I can't really find any straight answers online either. I guess it doesn't really matter, but I'm curious if that was really it or not!

  • I had 2, each time I lost a part of my MP. ?But then again my bloody show wasn't just a blood-tinged piece of mucous, it was an all out crime-scene blood bath. ?There would be this crazy amount of blood, MP would come out, then bleeding would stop and all would be ok. ?The first time was after DH & I had sex and the 2nd was after my internal yesterday.

  • Mine was like AF streaks on the tissue, but it wasn't a ton of blood or anything. I've had spotting after sex and internals, but this is the first time that I've lost MP or blood without any provoking.
  • Not in my experience...I never had it at all w/ #1 (induced early) but w/ #2 I had on-going stuff (bleeding/spotting) for a couple weeks before I had her.

  • I lost my MP on Thursday, and there was no blood... it was clear and brown (so I guess old blood?)
  • It can be either.  Bloody show is caused by blood vessels rupturing as your cervix dilates and/or thins out.  Dilation and effancement don't always cause the vessels to rupture early on, so you can easily walk around 80% effaced and 2cm dilated without bloody show.  After that, generally you are dilating quickly and the blood vessels will break, so you will have bloody show in active labor.  Everyone is different though, so you can have some bloody show and not go into labor for 4wks, you might have it off an on for 2wks, or you might not have any until labor starts.
