If I make homemade baby wipes out of microfiber towels...

will I absolutley have to hem or surge the edges?  I bought a stack at the dollar store today and I'm planning on cutting them into wipes sizes.  Anyone had any luck not finishing the edges of microfiber?  I figure I'll ask before I cut them and find a pile of thread in my washer afterwards!

Oh also, how big of wipes have you ladies made?  Would a 6x12 rectangle be an obnoxious size or should I stick with squares.  The towels I bought are 12 inches square so I thought I'd cut them in half.

TIA!

  • I'm not sure about the wipe size...but your DD is adorable!
  • Thank you!  I think she's pretty beautiful myself.  She's being introduced to cloth diapers this week and I'm having fun with it.  Whether she is or not is yet to be determined!  :o)  I hope so, cuz I really like the impact of CDing.

  • Maybe make  2 different sizes. A poo wipe maybe needs to be a little bigger then a pee wipe. Your DD makes me want a daughter right this second. I think you would have to finish them.
  • If you're looking for something easy we just use baby washcloths.

Not only shouldn't microfiber touch baby's skin, it's an absolute biitch to cut.  Fuzzies EVERYfreakingWHERE.  And, yes, you'll have to serge it.  I kind of doubt that overcasting would even help.

Sorry...no love for the microfiber here.

A good size for wipes is either 8x8 or 8x6.

    =)
