Question.. She told me I have to get rid of my tongue ring because it causes pre mature births.. anyone else hear of this? because.. I don't believe it. I have tons of friends with tongue rings and their babies were fine.
"While in general, piercings above the neck pose little problem, tongue jewelry may create a risk for anyone who needs anesthesia. Rightfully, the anesthetists worry about dislodging the stud and losing it down the patient's windpipe -- a dangerous process called aspiration. What can you do? If your tongue is pierced, the stud should come out before you are admitted to the hospital for childbirth or any surgical procedure. If you are worried about the hole closing up you may feel hesitant to follow this advice -- but the risk of aspiration outweighs those concerns."
This came up immediately on yahoo health. But it doesn't say anything about premature births...

Yeah I know about that. I had to have surgery and the firs thing they said was " out with the ring". But she specifically said " tongue rings raise a risk of pre mature pregnancy".
There's also a girl on babygaga (I know, really reputable source here) whose doc told her the same thing..maybe there is something to it...I don't know!

yeah I just read that post too.. however, its odd that 2 people hear about it and its not all over the net.
Re: Big U/S its all..
congrats on your girl!
I have never heard of anything bad about having a tounge ring regarding pg... that sounds weird to me!
Never heard the tongue ring thing --- ask your doctor instead of the u/s person (unless it was the same person).
And congrats on the little girl you're gestating in there!
Thats the thing.. it was the Doctor!
Agree with pp - nothing against the u/s tech, but your OB would probably be more knowledgeable on the matter.
And congrats on the girl!!!
