3rd Trimester

Asking questions at appointments

How many questions to you typically ask your doctor at your appointment.  I usually only have 1-2 questions but I have 16 questions written down for my next appointment!  I'm thinking of not asking them all and saving some for the next visit since my list is getting so long.....

Re: Asking questions at appointments

  • I usually ask about 2-3 questions per appointment, but my OB is always happy to stay in the room to answer more if I have them. She likes to be very thorough and in-depth with her answers which I definitely appreciate!

  • I keep a list of questions to ask. If not, I get all worked up and completely forget. I ask whatever questions come up between visits from both me and DH.
  • Sometimes I go in with just one and sometimes I have a long list. Just ask them, sometimes  when you ask one question they will respond in detail and in return anwser a few questions I have on the list. That is what they are there for, so ask away. Smile GL
  • My OB likes to talk and she says stuff in a way that doesn't make me feel dumb, just like she's mentioning random facts, etc but my NP just says 'any questions?' and I kinda feel put on the spot and usually forget 2-3 of my questions.
  • If you have questions, you should ask them!  That's what the doctors are there for.  I feel bad sometimes as well about asking too many questions, but DH always reminds me that there are other pregnant woman out there who ask many more then I do...
  • Last time I didn't ask any and I left there in tears. I get frustrated with my OB b/c she always seems so rushed. She does ask if I have any questions but I just feel like she should be saying stuff like "OK, over the next few weeks you should feel xyz. This is normal. This is not normal. Call me if this happens. Etc". I have a million questions but don't want to feel stupid. I'm definitely taking a list with me on Monday.

  • I ask tons of questions...usually the 'off the wall what people really want to know answers to' questions.  I also do demonstrations of things that I'm doing to make sure that they are ok for me to do still (step aerobic intervals using the step stool on the exam table was my favorite!).  I also teach elementary PE and demonstrate EVERYTHING, so I have to find out what is ok to demo and what is not ok.
  • I ask some to the nurse when she does my wt/vital signs and then some to the OB. It depends on the question. My practice also has a nurses' line that you can call with questions between appointments. That helps with things you forget to ask or stuff that comes up.
