3rd Trimester

Full moon babies??

I just got off the phone with my mom and she said that there are (according to superstition) more babies born on full moons than any other day. I really hope this is not true because the next full moon is not until April 9th! Holy cow I can't imagine waiting that much longer.

  • My BF had her baby two weeks ago (her EDD was today). There was a full moon and 31 babies were delivered at the hospital that day.

LMAO! thank god I am not delivering here in Forks! I have a feeling I would never hear the end of that one.

I am good, how are you doing? I haven't seen much of you on here lately!

  • Gosh I hope this is true! I'm due on the 18th and would LOVE to go on the 9th! :)
  • That's actually not superstition - it's statistical fact. More babies are born within 24 hrs of the full moon and new moon (before and after) than any other times of the month.

The reason is because your gestational cycle is not 9 calendar months - its 10 lunar months - 280 days. When there is a full moon or new moon, there are stronger gravitational pulls which cause different changes in different parts of nature. A pregnant woman's body is one of them.

That's not to say that all women go into labor during a full/new moon, but more women go into labor during that time of the month than any other. Also - that statistic really only holds true for woman who have NOT Had any medical intervention to push their labor along. (stripped membranes, cervical dilating medications, etc)

  • I would love to have her on the 9th!!
  • Thanks! I had no idea. Hopefully this will hold true then, it is currently a new moon today!

  • its not always on the full moon, but also the days that follow, the second half of the lunar phase, it has to do with the gravitational pull
