Choosing a RE/IVF practice

I am trying to pick a clinic for IVF. Due to various issues, I have to move straight to IVF. I just do not know how to choose where to go. It is between RBA and ACRM. When I call them, they say schedule an appointment and they'll start a work up - but I want to know how to pick which one! They are no help.

~ The statistics seem pretty much the same.

~I prefer that ACRM has a Dr. do the ultrasounds. But is that a big deal?

 ~Locations are equally convenient.

I know there are several people on here who have used each one of the practices. What made you choose your place? My doctor is no help, she recommends both!

Re: Choosing a RE/IVF practice

  • We went with ACRM. I love them! Our main RE was Dr. Hasty but if you go with them you will likey meet with all of the REs at some point. They are all wonderful! I would think a good side to having the RE do the u/s is, if there was a problem you don't have to wait for a tech to get a dr (and worry while they are gone), he/she is already there. My dh's urologist (we are sever MFI) recommended ACRM/Dr. Hasty. I know several people who have used RBA and really like it but I will stick with ACRM. Also if you are interested there is a Trouble Trying To Conceive (TTTC) board on here that is full of support and knowledge. Good Luck!

  • I can't say enough good things about Dr Toledo at RBA....LOVE HIM.

  • I did RBA and LOVED them! All  3 of my babies are from RBA. I saw Dr. Robert Straub who was based in the Alpharetta office. He always did all of my IVF ultrasounds.  I'm still in touch with my nurse - we became friends. They are an extension of my family now - love them! Cannot say enough good things about the entire practice!

    Team RBA!!!!!!

Good luck! My babies are all IVF babies :-)

Hope your miracle happens for you.

  • I used ACRM and Dr. Hasty at the recommendation of my former OBGYN.  I absolutely loved her and I met with all of the doctors at some point and loved them all too.  They helped me conceive my 2 miracles so I think they are the greatest thing around.  I've heard wonderful things about RBA too though and I don't think you can go wrong with either practice.
  • Well, I am a RBA graduate, so I will have to go for them.  But I've had friends that were successful with both RBA and ACRM, so I don't think you can go wrong with either.  I went with RBA b/c I really wanted to use Dr. Toledo.  He is a wonderful doctor and we were successful on our first round of IVF.  I can't say enough good things about him or any of the staff at RBA.   Oh, and I don't think it's a big deal that a doctor doesn't do your ultrasounds, but that's just me!
  • I am currently seeing Dr. Slayden with RBA at the Lawrenceville location. I absolutely LOVE him! His bedside manor is out of this world! I've never had a doctor who cared enough to call me while he was on vacation with his family to go over things with me!

    Good luck!!

  • I went to ACRM.

I think if you have male factor, then RBA is the place to go because of their awesome urologist.  Otherwise, go to ACRM.  You see a doctor at every visit, and to me, that was a big deal.

Also, I personally know 4 couples who got pg with multiples at RBA and 3 selectively reduced.  I have talked to many women who have cycled all over town and I am amazed at how often docs at RBA recommend transferring 3 embryos - it doesn't increase your odds of success really but it greatly increases your odds of HOM.  Of course, YOU ultimately make the decisions about your care, but the higher rate of multiples at RBA scares me.

  • I have to add my 2 cents about multiples from RBA - they have a world famous embryologist who has been extremely successful.  They recommended that I transfer no more than two fresh embryos and even gave me the option of doing one on transfer day because both looked perfect. They asked if we were ok with twins (which we were) and we got twins! They only would let me do 3 if we were using frozen - However, I don't even think that I had 3 survive the thaw.

Ditto on the recommendation for 1 or 2 embryos to transfer.
