Babies: 9 - 12 Months

? DD has not gained weight in 6 weeks.

Has this happened to anyone else? At DD's 4 month appointment she weighed 12lbs 14oz and is in the 25th percentile for weight. We went in today due to her being sick and again, she weighed 12lbs 14oz. The doctor said she looks great and it could be because she is more mobile now -- she rolls around like crazy. We are going to start solids next week, but I still feel funny that she isn't gaining! Especially since she is so small to start with.

  • I probably wouldn't worry too much. She is more mobile so she's burning more fuel now. Just keep and eye on it.

  • This happened to us around the same age, and the last time we went she hadn't gained much, either.  Getting her to eat is always a struggle for us.  My pedi said that you can see the eating habits of kids this early, and some just aren't eaters.  My husband is naturally slim, I think DD just takes after him.

Don't worry about it - once you start solids she should start to gain more.

  • I wouldn't worry too much. Also, she may have gained a few ounces and then lost them if she was sick. DD went in for a check up and went back in about a week later due to a nasty cold/possible ear infection and she had lost 2-3 ounces (it was hard to tell because we had trouble getting her to sit still long enough to weigh her). She has continued to gain well since getting over her illness.
  • Is her head circumference still growing steadily?

When pinky was a baby, she was pretty tiny and not growing very fast. It wasn't until her little baby head stopped growing that they became worried.
