I have my one hour glucose test tomorrow. Could anything I eat today affect it's outcome? Like the fact that I'm devouring jelly beans and peanut M&M's??
i avoided sugar that whole day before except for at 11 pm (i had to fast after midnight) i had some ice cream. i passed, but i wondered the same thing.
I had GD last pg. Yes it can affect your test tomorrow. I also have my Glucose test tomorrow. G/l to you! I am watching what I eat today and also since I don't have to go til 9:30am I am allowed to eat breakfast, a healthy breakfast, but there has to be at least 2 hours between the time I eat and the time I drink the stuff for the test (just a lil additional info incase you want to eat before). Hope this helps!
There's a chance that it could. Digestion slows as pregnancy progresses. I'd lay off the sugars until you have the test.
I agree. I know a girl who had her's the day after thanksgiving and because she had eaten all those sweets after her turkey, her results were through the roof.
Thanks guys! I just moved the test till next tuesday to be safe. Now I really need to be a good girl the whole weekend and lay off the sweets! Which is going to be super hard.
My OB said to eat as you usually do in the days leading up to the test as well as the day of the test. If you try to "cheat" by avoiding sugar/carbs, you can end up throwing off the results because your body may overreact to the sugars in the drink they give you. I ate my usual morning cereal with soy milk at 8am, had a banana at 10am, my glucose test at 10:45am, and passed with an 86.
I wouldn't binge on sugar today, but the glucose measure is to see how you respond to the Glucola; there's a "normal" range that takes into account the fact whether you are/aren't fasting before your glucose test. If you fail the test (your blood sugar ends up being too high), they'll give you 2nd level test before determining that you have diabetes.
