I wrote about this on my blog today, and I wanted to mention it here, too. I cannot emphasize how thankful I was that DH and I had blogged about Kate since she was born. (He blogged about her at first ... before I started blogging regularly around the time she was eight months old.)
Anyway, in the last few months, we have had to fill out a ton of paperwork regarding Kate's speech and occupational therapy as well as her evaluation with Babies Can't Wait ... and then prior to her being seen by a developmental pediatrician. This paperwork called for ALL KINDS of info regarding milestones, speech habits (going back to her first months), eating habits (from the very beginning), etc., etc. I thought I would be so great about filling out her baby book with such info ... but I was not! I couldn't remember anything off the top of my head other than when she rolled over, sat up, and walked. Oh, and her first solids. I referred back to our blogs SO MANY TIMES when going over her developmental progress. Even posts that were just candid thoughts and ramblings about what Kate was up to were beneficial.
So ... my point is this: Please keep notes somewhere about what your child is doing each month ... on a blog, in a notebook, baby book, calendar, whatever. Seriously. You never know when you may have to refer back to it for a medical evaluation or other. And if you have another child, this information can be so valuable then as well.
Sorry this is so long, but it was so helpful to me, and I wanted to pass this along.
Re: Important: Document your DC's milestones, habits, etc.
Excellent advice! I'm glad your blog proved to be so practical and helpful.
It may seem indulgent to write a blog, but I find myself going over mine so often, whether it's to reminisce about my pregnancy or to look back on G's growth. When my girlfriends talk about their pregnancy progress, I can go back to that same stage when I was pregnant and share with them!
