bike seat for baby??

So I was wondering if these were considered "unsafe"... I ride my bike A LOT and would love for the little one to come along. I am registered at BRU and can't find one to put on there!

Re: bike seat for baby??

  • I would never consider them safe...but I know they still make them.  Try a sporting goods store or a specialty bike store (if they don't sell them, I'm sure they could order one).  My BIL had one when my nephew was little (rarely used it)...that was only a few years ago.

  • Im having the same issues.... BF is a cyclist and Im not, but Id like to go out from time to time and take baby girl with us... but I dont think its going to happen, not at least for a couple years.

  • If you ride your bike you should consider one of those rickshaw/cart things instead of a bike seat.

That is EXACTLY what I am looking for... but I wish I could put it on my registry (I know they're expensive!). HRMPH!

  • I would go with the Burley trailer (or Trek's version of that). We have the Burley Dlite and I love it. You won't be able to put the baby in it until they are about 9 months old and can not only hold their head up, but have the strength to keep it up for a long time. The bike stores suggest 1 year of age.

  • They only sell them at bicycle stores (at least the good ones) and the ones they sell at stores like Target are HEAVY. What about getting a used one? They are on Craigslist all the time. HTH!

these things freak me out. i saw a lady riding her bike with her kid in one of these across a major intersection and almost lost control, and all i could picture was the thing tipping over and the kid rolling out into the road
