Butt Swab?? Seriously??

Ok did I just read correctly that the GBS test includes a butt swab?? I thought it was only a vaginal swab... that sucks...

They stick to the outside for the most part, and it's really fast. You'll be ok, even though you'll dread it till the day it comes.

It sure does. But the good news is, is that its very quick and it is not like they go inside. They just swab the outer edge of both. I had to have it done twice because my doctor does it at two different times in the pregnancy. It wasn't that bad.

It's just a q-tip and they just give it a quick once over. Nothing to freak out about.

Of all the TMI things related to pregnancy and childbirth, this is the least of my worries.

Different docs do it differently. But in any case, it's really no big deal. I mean really, of all things to worry or be freaked about? It takes literally like, a few seconds.

Just be glad you're not the one that has to administer the test! I would rather receive it once or twice than have to do that to all my pregnant patients!

As pp have said, it truly is not bad at all...If my doctor didn't give me a play-by-play while she was doing it, I truly would have been like, "you've swabbed both already?"  It was nothing.  Don't worry.

I've had it twice & if someone had asked me what they do I wouldn't even remember--it's that much of a non-issue.  Seriously of all the things to get worked up over in pregnancy & childbirth, this doesn't even register at all.
