Help! My 3 month old is MISERABLE!

I don't know what to do...

This is our routine:

7:00 AM- wake up & eat

Happy, smiling, playing until 8:00

8:00-8:30: Fussy & 1/2 crying unless you hold him & walk him around

8:30: Goes down for a nap, but has to cry hysterically for 5 minutes before he falls asleep

9:00 - Wake up perfectly happy & repeat

This pattern continues ALL DAY LONG. Awake for an hour, fussy for 30 minutes, sleep for 30 minutes. He eats every two hours.

I've tried putting him down sooner, no good. I've tried feeding him when he gets fussy, no good. I've tried everything to get him to sleep longer, no good. We've laid him down, put him in the swing, put him in the jumperoo, on the playmat, inside, outside. He HATES the carseat and the stroller, so going somewhere is out. He'll tolerate the carrier, but still fusses.

Is he just a miserable kid or am I missing the boat and are we doing something terribly wrong? It's exhausting & I'm starting to work from home in 2 weeks, so I can't be doting on him around the clock. I thought by three months they start to entertain themselves more? HELP!?

Edit: He sleeps 7-7 at night, getting up 1-2 time just to eat. He goes down fine and sleeps in his crib. I realize he might not need a lot of daytime sleep, but the constant fussiness is terrible!?

  • Oh hon, I'm sorry--that sucks! My LO has a similar schedule except he's sleeping for longer stretches.  But he's discovered the world, and is fighting sleep, which makes him cranky.  I wish I had some advice for you... do you have a moby or bjorn? DS will always sleep when I'm holding him or he's in the carrier.  Might be worth a try?

  • he sounds like he maybe colicky... try using drops or chamoile tea. =) but make sure its the all natural tea, not the tea bags, they sell the little packages of chamomile. they're in the seasoning section. it will also help you and your nerves. only about an oz will be okay =) my pedi recommended it as well when i had that problem.

Does Colic go in spurts like that? 1/2 an hour at a time? He doesn't cry and holding him stops it, so I assumed it wasn't something physical. I also have a bjorn and it doesn't help- still fusses.

Yes, I remember FI got home one time and baby was sound asleep (for about 10 mins) while i was holding him. My arms were numb... and I was in tears. All day bouncing him around. But trust me, the drops or the tea both work =) you'll see a different baby after that. I had him my sling or the front carrier after that if he did get colicky again
