LOST episode last night - (spoiler alert)

Ok, I'm going to be all over the place with this post because I need to first talk about the ending. For those of you last week who thought they wouldn't ever allow Sayid to actually shoot little Ben got your shocker last night. I didn't think it would ever happen either, but I guess Sayid is in a place mentally where he really doesn't give a darn anymore, so shooting a kid is nothing to him. It's like the old "if you could go back in time to when hitler was born and prevent it, would you, knowing what he becomes?" I guess Sayid would. Jack and Kate were in like 5 minutes of the whole episode. I wish they would've showed Sun for at least a few minutes. That one Dharma scientist who found Sayid with Sawyer is the most obnoxious human being. At one point I was yelling, shoot him, just to shut him up. Now what do I think is the result of what happened last night, not really sure. All I know is nothing is ever permanant, and Sayid may have just sped up the death of the Dharma folks from the "others" because in shooting Ben while they believed he is from the others, could spark a civil war of some sort. It will be interesting to see what comes next. Thoughts? Theories?

Re: LOST episode last night - (spoiler alert)

  • Young Ben is not dead. Remember Daniel said we can't change the past no matter how hard we try because fate/destiny will always correct itself? If that's really the case then Ben can't be dead at 12 yrs old.

Other random thought - remember back when Widmore was a soldier on the island, and there was that girl "Ellie" with the shotgun? Do you think that could be ELOISE HAWKING?

  • I don't know, I'm totally confused on this one. I have to rewatch again today.

But Daniel said you can't change what happens so I'm not sure how that works with Ben being shot. And where is he right now? I know I've read where the producers say that the series will end with what happens at "the Incident" so I wonder how all this affects him.

Good point! My preggers brain doesn't allow me to remember anything from the past. I think that you may be right on Eloise, I'm going to google now and see what the theories are out there.

Crap, really? I thought we still had one more season to go after this one?!

  • I left this comment on a friend's blog earlier this morning:

"I?m really torn like an old sweater on this Li?l Ben issue. I mean, we?ve seen Christian Shepherd walking around the island (whether or not he is ?alive?, spirit, or zombie is yet to be determined for me). We know Locke is alive (but perhaps in the same way as Christian). We saw Li?l Ben get shot and fall, but we got no actual confirmation that he is dead-as-a-doornail dead. I think I?m leaning toward Li?l Ben either narrowly surviving the shooting or being healed or brought back to life by the Island, after which he is found by or seeks and finds the Hostiles/Others, thus beginning his ascent to Leader of the Pack. Perhaps Sayid was always supposed to go back in time and shoot Li?l Ben in the jungle, allowing the Hostiles to find him. Perhaps if Sayid had never done that, Li?l Ben would grow up to be Ben Workman. BUT. There is the issue of the present-day village still bearing Dharma markings and signs. So I?m still with you that SOMETHING had to have happened to change the timeline. I?m not entirely sure that Ben dying is the keystone event, though. Perhaps the place where Sun and Lapidus found Christian is some sort of abandoned outpost (Dharmaville is further inland and surrounded by the sonic fence; Sun and Lapidus wandered upon the Dharma building almost immediately after coming ashore). Maybe TPTB are trying to trick us. Alls I know is that my mind was spinning after last night?s episode, which is a very good thing.

Either perhaps the Others find Ben, patch him up, and send him back to the Dharma village to be an insider and report back to them (because we know he stays in the DI), or Jin takes him back and he gets patched up, but other things happen that we have yet to learn about that further his hatred of his own people and cause him to turn to the Others."

So there's my theory.  LOVE this stuff.

    I HAVE CHILDREN.
  • OMG how did I miss "Ellie" could be "Eloise Hawking" - nice catch!!

I also agree with what Daniel said about not being able to change what has already happened.  Besides, Ben has to kill his dad (which I thought may have been alluded to last night when he said something referencing his dad in the past tense when he went to let out Sayid) but I thought he did that when he was older, as well as kill the Dharma people (gas/gunshots, there have been both).  It all running together...but last night was pretty good.

We do.  This is Season 5 of 6.

  • Random analogy... Ben is the Darth Vader of the Island. He was a nice sweet kid but grew up to be the most evil thing ever. Being shot by Sayid was his turning point to the dark side.

The writers are big Star Wars fans, btw...

  • I wish they would show Desmond again! argh

Ben obviously lives b/c otherwise he would have never become an adult. Then again, there's that whole thing Daniel said about how you can't change the past...no matter how hard you try it will all work out the way it was supposed to. Or something like that. Remember that Jack is now on the island....obviously he'll save Ben.

Yes, Series ending next year not the season ending; there is another season after this. So it seems like we have quite a bit of time with them in the 70's if that's true and I don't know if I'm in to that.

Yeah the Dharmaville thing is really whacked out. And how are they going to eventually link up with Ben/Sun/Lapidus in the present?

I absolutely think they are the same person.

I also think now that when Oceanic 815 crashed that Ben knew who these people were because he had met him when he was younger. Remember when he traded Sawyer, Kate and Jack for Walt & Michael to leave? I think there was more now to why he wanted those people too.
