Quick question - mixing fresh and previously frozen?

I'm traveling with LO today, and I'd planned on pumping enough to make a large bottle to take with us.  Well, the boobs aren't cooperating as planned and I've only pumped half as much as I need.  Can I take a bag out of the freezer, warm it to room temp and add it to the fresh milk I just pumped? And once I do that, can I keep it at room temp in my bag until I get where I'm going (about 6 hours if baby doesn't use it)?

Re: Quick question - mixing fresh and previously frozen?

  • No- you can't keep it out that long if it is going to have frozen milk combined with the fresh milk.

what i would suggest is to take the fresh milk- you can keep that out for longer in a separate bottle and then take the frozen milk in the freezer bag or bottle with you with a cooling unit and defrost when baby wants it.

  • You can mix them together at once they are close to the same temp, but you wont want to leave warmed previously frozen milk out that long, so I would bring them separated and combine them when you are ready to use.
