Thanks a ton for your response. Of course I have a million questions, but I think you gave me some great advice. I googled, and checked major associations in my area, but I was less than thrilled with what I found. I never thought to talk to cabinet companies, or other "specialists" in the area for recommendations. That is a great idea and hopefully it will pan out. We have an awesome cabinet guy here, and also a great flooring guy (ok my father in law). I never even thought of asking them for recommendations. Hopefully they will have the ability to help.
Do you act as a GC on jobs as well? I would like to start by doing my office (home based business), diningroom, playroom and my bedroom this summer and hope to start finishing the basement early next year. Would I typically look for a designer and a GC for the basement separately?
thanks for your advice!! I really appreciate it. Wish you were in my area!!!!
Re: HeyyRed
We act as project managers and work with a GC that we trust. We have some smaller contractors for smaller jobs that we act as a pseudo GC for.
As a designer, I would do all of the plans for your basement including plumbing, electrical and reflected ceiling plans, partition walls and so on. We would do the space planning, furniture sourcing/design, finishes, fixtures and even bring in our media specialists to design that aspect if you were so inclined. Then our GC would come in and execute while we would manage the project.
On major renovation projects, we have the client hire our contractor to act as GC and then we co-manage the project.
I'll pm you my contact info so you can always email me any questions you may have.
?Red?
You're unbelievable.
thanks!
