I tried doing the giant cupcake today. The frosting will be Barnyard red when I do the real cake, but i didn't want to waste all that dye.
Also I'm going to sift the flower next time, didn't really do that this time and it clumped on the chocolate and made it look funny. I did the bottom half in chocolate, the top half in white. It was pretty easy! ...at least easier than I thought.

65 minutes each half, but I did them seperately. probably 70 minutes together - I just followed the directions that came with the cake pan.
Then you know you get the concave ends and you need them to be flat, and you just take dental floss across it (like a block of cheesE) to flatten it.
OMG..that's awesome. If I didn't have my own mind, I'd totally do that for K's birthday.
great job!

Thanks everyone!
Brookie, I get a free sheet cake for his first birthday from the local grocery store and I'm going to have them do a farm themed one so it will all go together. I might stick a plastic figure on the top though. hehe
thanks miranda - great tip!
I used 1 mix for each top and bottom, so 2 boxes total. I used about 3/4 a box mix on each half, and then had about a dozen regular sized cupcakes left over.
Cool thank you!! Would you say that you filled the cake pans 3/4 of the way or less?

Heidi, I used No-taste wilton red. I tested a small amount to the color I wanted and it tasted fine ...and even if it tastes funny - i think the kid wont notice the difference honeslty. He's going to be like "mmm SUGAR BOING BOING BOING"
