I've always heard it's inappropriate to have a shower after the first child. At least, that's how it is around here- but that might just be a regional/social thing.

In my family showers are for baby number one only...unless it's been a long time since the last baby....DD is 8 so I think my family is having another shower.
I say yes, have a shower. If you just had #2, then hav a diapers wipes and books shower...or something themed like that...but yes, I think every baby should get some new stuff too.
I threw a baby shower for one of my SILs when she had their third baby. They had two little girls first and then pretty much gave away all of their baby stuff. Their youngest girl was 5 or 6 when the little boy was born so they pretty much had to start from scratch and didnt have anything.
My sister is having her third child the same time as I am having my first. She is not having a shower- partly bc she really doesn't need anything, and partly bc she doesn't want to take any attention away from me.
I say, sure why not!!! If someone has offered to throw one for you (not in your family), then fabulous. Draw up the guest list!
And, just because you invite someone does not mean they have to come or they have to get you a gift. If they personally think it's excessive, they can politely decline with well wishes for you and the baby, and their obligation is complete!
