Breastfeeding

I've made it 6 months and...

I am thinking of weaning...talk me down from the ledge.  We went on vacation this past weekend with another couple and she was FF'ing her son.  I am BFing mine.  It just seems so much less hassle, she can feed him in the middle of a crowded restaurant (I had to find the bathroom and nurse him in there and got a dirty look from a lady.)  I don't feel comfortable nursing in public especially in front of her DH because he is a skeezball!

Then my DS started crying in the car because we were going to the airport, we were running late, and I couldn't pull over to feed him.  He screamed for 30 minutes.  My friend just whipped out a bottle and gave it to her DS.  Problem solved.  I know I should have pumped and kept a bottle, but we were rushing around so much there wasn't time.

While I have enjoyed BFing immensely and I feel lucky I haven't had any problems, this vacation made me want to switch!

Now that I'm home it is better--a lot easier.  Please give me some pep talk....I'm not quite ready to give up yet!!

  • Washing bottles is not a vacation and you probably had more money to spend because you didn't have to buy formula :)

  • Please stick with it--take it a month at a time. I BF for 2.5 YEARS, while working full time. It is so worth it--you will NEVER be this close to your child again. It can be a hassle at times. Always be prepared with a bottle and insulated carry bag if you are not one to BF in public (I never felt comfortable with it either). I have had the opposite happen--my friend (not breastfeeding her baby) ran out of formula while we were out. I never ran out!
  • Sometimes I see your point, BFing can be harder and trickier at times (and I BF in public when I need to) BUT overall it is so much easier.  Maybe it would have been easier to ff your baby on this vacation, BUT overall it is much more work to FF (in my opinion) when your at home.  You can DEFINITLY make it to one year and longer if you want!  You've done so much for your baby and are doing so well, why give up now?
  • Thank you ladies!  I have decided to keep BFing for now.   The pedi told me his ears look great and it is due to the EBFing.  My DH is supportive and I feel better about it.  Plus my DS loves to nurse and I don't think he is ready to wean yet either!
