Maybe I'm not following directions, but during my first session of prenatal yoga I pulled my lower back! How is it possible for a person to injure themselves during YOGA? Has anyone else had this happen or am I just weird?
It's definitely possible to injure yourself during yoga. It's actually pretty physically demanding and you really have to make sure you're not pushing yourself too far and always listen to your body.
I tried a prenatal yoga dvd and didn't like it at all. I haven't really done yoga before, had a hard time and was very inflexible. I think I needed to start with a beginners yoga instead of a prenatal one, since it seemed like the moves were for someone who did yoga pre-pg.
Don't feel bad--yoga injuries are actually very common. If you are in a class, I'd maybe see if you can talk with your instructor before you go next for some tips. You may not be doing the pose with proper alignment.
Thanks, everybody! I definitely think I failed to exercise proper technique with every movement. The one that did me in, though, was toward the end when we were supposed to be "cooling down". That's how out of shape I am! lol
