Pregnant after a Loss

Vent: My 7th 24-Hour Urine. Ugh

I am so sick of doing 24 hour urine catches. I know my OB wants to keep on top of any signs of preeclampsia, but this is getting so annoying. I have been having to take them and do them at work and I am a teacher. I have to carry everything to the bathroom when I go. I have to keep it chilled in a cooler, which I have to lug to work. The kids ask what's in the cooler. I have to make up stories.Co-workers look at me weird when I take it into the bathroom with me.Then I have to drive all the way to the hospital with it in my car...I work 40 minutes away from the lab. Ugh!!! I can't take much more of this. Thanks for letting me vent! And sorry, I know this is a disgusting topic.

  • I'm sorry that you are having to do all this. Just remember that it will all be worth it. Are you going on leave soon?

  • I have to do them too, so I know what you mean.  Every time I have to do the test my nurse is like "Here is your lovely jug!"  I always time mine so that they're on the weekends though....can you do that?
  • Unless I am induced early, which is a possibility...my maternity leave doesn't start until April 27th. I will be 39 weeks at that point. Thanks for listening! :)

  • That sucks.  I was always in the H when I had to do them, so I didn't have to worry about lugging it around, but it was still gross.  I second the pp who mentioned asking to do it on the weekend.

They started worrying about pre-e when I was 33w and I did eventually end up with it, but it was atypical.  I never spilled any protein and my labs were perfect.  My bp was high and my swelling was out of control.  I was in the H for 4 days (during my last stay) before a MFM was brought in on my case.  He took one look at me and said he didn't care what my urine or labs looked like.  We delivered 2 hours later.  I am SO grateful that my ob finally called for a consult because the pre-e was much more advanced than they realized.

Certainly not trying to scare you.  It sounds like your ob is watching you really closely which is reassuring.  I just wanted to say that my main symptom was that I basically stopped going to the bathroom and then the day I delivered I had a pretty bad headache that wouldn't go away.  This was pretty much ignored by my ob and the nurses on the floor.

Take care of yourself.  This will all be over soon and your LO will be in your arms before you know it.

  • Aww...That sucks.
