Pregnant after a Loss

This shouldn't annoy me but it does.

I told my doc that I measured four days ahead on my u/s last week, and that I knew that'd be the case since I know when I conceived.

I asked if she'd change my due date based on that (it's only four days, but still) and she said, nah, we usually just go by LMP regardless, but if it gets to the end and you're really not having that baby, remind me that you might be farther along than we think.

Then she said "we'll just stick with that Oct. 13 date for now." And I said, well, I'm sticking with October 9, lady! (ok, I didn't really say lady.)

Four days is four days!!!

  • I would be super annoyed. If you went by my LP I would be over 6 weeks, but I O late. So, if my doc always reminded me I was "behind" instead of on time, I would be annoyed. They really should change it based on how the baby is developing...

  • I would be annoyed! If you went my my LMP I'd be 8 weeks right now! That could cause some serious issues! While your dr is right, 4 days is not that big of a deal, I can see how you'd want your date set in stone, even if it is only estimated! I just hate when drs think we don't know our bodies when we really do.

  • I would be annoyed. My doctor's office usually goes by LMP, but my u/s told a different story so they changed my edd.
  • My m/w did a similar thing - I have calculated my due date based on my O date, since I O early and have a short cycle.  She insists on using my LMP, which puts me three days later.  I haven't had an u/s, so we don't know where the baby is measuring.  The m/w said they choose the latest possible date so that women don't freak when a baby is "late" and clamor for induction.  I wouldn't ask for one until the baby was way late anyway, so it doesn't bother me that much (but, I have not changed my ticker and am sticking with the earlier date).
  • I am the opposite (I O-ed 4 days later so I know I am really 4 days behind my due date).  I was annoyed for so long & would mention something at every appointment that I O later and blah blah blah (I want to go by the most accurate date) but finally decided to let it go.  Remember, they have been following pregnancies by LMP since the beginning of time so it's what works the best.  & a due date is really just an approximation, so try not to get too hung up with the exact date.

Good for you, girl. I'm sticking with the earlier date, too. No one besides me knows what my doctor's chart says anyway, so who cares I guess!

  • Also, I forgot to mention: my midwife said that as long as the ultrasound measurements are not off by more than a week, they will always go by the LMP.
  • I ovulated late, and based on my lmp I should be due 10/10, but based on when i ov'd, and my 6 week ultrasound I'm due 10/16, but my dr. still has 10/10 as my due date.  I'm going to bring it up again April 3rd when I have my 12 week ultrasound, and I'm sure my dates will still add up.  So we'll see.  My daughters were born on October 9th...it's a great due date I'd stick with it ;)
  • Don't be too annoyed.  a) Most women know little to nothing about their fertility so they base everything on LMP to have a uniform system. b) 4 days is nothing!  Most doctors won't change your due date unless it is more than a week off because "on time" is anywhere from 2 weeks early to 2 weeks late. c) I feel totally rushed to get everything ready; at this point I would love to have 4 extra days!

I am a late ovulator, and I implanted late, so I have always measured behind my LMP EDD.  It won't be an issue until we get closer to our due dates and the induction discussions begin, or if you happen to ever measure small in comparison to your LMP EDD.

  • I wouldn't be annoyed either.  FWIW, due dates are a general timeframe. Just because your due date is 4 days earlier or later, does not mean your baby will come on your due date.  4 days is like nothing.
